Ellen Newman was drawn into the field of Real Estate 15 years ago out of her interest in helping people and a need to keep active professionally. Having moved from the Upper West Side of Manhattan in 1984 to Cobble Hill where she lives with her husband and 3 children, she became a convert and Brooklyn advocate with her many Manhattan friends looking for a nice place to live.
Ellen worked for many years as a professional fundraiser, working first for Averril Harriman in Washington in the before migrating to New York . She worked in program development and fund raising for a series of non-profit organizations including NOW, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and as Director of Development for the American Council for Drug Education before moving to Brooklyn and starting a family.
Ellen a graduate of Fordham University, remains very active in civic and non-profit arenas as a trustee of the Brooklyn Children's Museum, Past President of the Brooklyn Heights Garden Club and an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church community.
Ellen became interested in the realm of real estate during the planning and construction of their house in East Hampton, L.I. in 1986, but it wasn't until after the birth of their daughter Georgia in 1988 that she thought seriously about pursuing the interest. She credits her success in the field to her naturally gregarious nature and the "people skills" she attributes to having developed during her years as a political fundraiser. Ellen characterizes herself as an open, bright and empathetic person, which helps her establish the rapport necessary to build the trust and respect of her clients and other real estate professionals with whom she works.
Ellen, has made Cobble Hill Brooklyn her home with her Husband Ted since 1982. She and her husband have a daughter Georgia, at the Pratt Institute, and twin sons Robby and Teddy at St. Ann’s in the Heights.
