Aquebogue
Aquebogue (Head of the Bay) is the first bayside town east of Riverhead. Carved just below the notch that divides the North and South Forks, Aquebogue's countryside is so lovely you will find yourself naturally slowing down to get in step with its relaxed rhythm..
Much of Aquebogue's pastoral panorama is thanks to its gorgeous vineyards. Their beauty is more than skin deep: Paumanok Vineyards, Palmer Vineyards, newcomer Comtesse Therese all boast a fleet of top awards for their wines.
Long Island duck, which must be raised on the island to be the real thing, is a delicacy that is harder to find now that there are only three duck farms on the East End instead of 70. Many would argue that the best is Crescent Duck Farm, an Aquebogue institution for three generations.
Another destination spot is Ver der Ber's Garden Center on Main Road. This family-owned business's country store is great, but even greater is its acres and acres of bushes, trees, annuals and perennials.
