Beekman
Midtown on the East Side from the East River to First Avenue, 48th Street to 52nd Street
When you hear that Beekman is a little jewel box of an area, believe it - the neighborhood centers around Beekman Place, which is only two blocks long.
Like its big sister Sutton Place, this tranquil enclave in the East Fifties is set up against the river, and is known for its water views and classic apartment houses. One Beekman Place, built in 1930, was home to John D. Rockefeller III - and the loveable fictional Auntie Mame. Recent condo buildings include the Beekman Regent (with on-site valet parking) and the Grand Beekman (which offers gardens and a conservatory).
