Bushwick
Runs from Flushing Avenue to Broadway to Conway Street and the Cemetery of the Evergreens.
Bushwick gets its name from a Dutch word meaning 'little town in the woods.' Originally settled by German immigrants who established breweries in the area, the nabe is now reminiscent of the East Village with its diverse community, many of which are artists. Industrial lofts and warehouses have been converted to live/work spaces and art studios but there are also plenty of townhouses and detached homes designed in the Italianate, Neo Greco, Romanesque Revival and Queen Anne styles by well known architects if that is more your taste.
And the impressive architecture doesn't stop with the homes. St. Barbara's Roman Catholic Church at Central Avenue is among the tallest buildings in Brooklyn and can be seen from all over Bushwick.
