Clinton Hill
Runs from Washington to Bedford Avenues, north from Atlantic Avenue to Flushing Avenue
Some people give china as a wedding present; Charles Pratt gave his sons mansions. Three of those are still standing at 229, 241 and 245 Clinton Avenue, a grand boulevard that represents 19th-century Brooklyn. The rest of the neighborhood, one of the highest points in Brooklyn, contains gorgeous old brownstones and show-stopping churches. (The Tiffany-windowed Episcopal Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew and the intricately-stencilled Emmanuel Baptist Church are worth noting).
Subway access is good, with the area served by the F and G lines. For recreation, head over to Parham Playground on Willoughby Avenue, or grab the pooch and head over to nearby Fort Greene Park. You can get a cup of joe at Connecticut Muffin or check out one of five flavors of lemonade at Jive Turkey.
