DUMBO
Runs from Atlantic Avenue in the south to the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the north, from Nassau Street and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on the east to the East River on the west
One of the main attractions of this area is the spectacular views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges and the Manhattan skyline; and another is the magic of chocolatier Jacques Torres, a modern-day Willy Wonka. One new condo of note is J Condos, which offer design by Andres Escobar, quarter-sawn oak kitchen cabinets, and a common yoga/pilates room.
Just to the north of DUMBO(which stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is Vinegar Hill, which by contrast, has a historical name (after the site of a 1798 British-Irish military battle), and a historical look (with nineteenth-century buildings and Belgian-block streets). If you want a quaint walk-up with Ye Olde Brooklyn charm, you can find it here.
Transport from both areas is by subway (the F train at York Street and the A train at High Street) or by Water Taxi from the Fulton Ferry landing, making it a quick commute to Wall Street and downtown Manhattan.
