Flanders
You will never see the South Fork's most famous architectural structure in Architectural Digest, although it is listed in National Register of Historic Places. It's the Big Duck, the Flanders landmark and 20-foot-tall pantheon to quirkiness.
Built over 70 years ago by a local duck farmer, Big Duck is a metaphor for Flanders: funny, eye-catching, a symbol of the village's yesteryear as a duck capital and today as a vacation-home destination spot. Its adorable cottages, many of which have incredible views of Goose Creek and Reeves Bay, are a weekenders' delight.
Located at the top of the South Fork tine, Flanders has as much green as it does aqua. Flanders Preserve and Sears Bellows County Park, where Big Duck resides, offer every outdoor pleasure you can imagine. Big Duck is great, but it's only one reason to flock to Flanders.
