Hamilton Heights
Uptown West, from West 125th Street to West 155th Street, from Riverside Drive to St. Nicholas and Edgecombe Avenues
The conjunction of great subway access (the train stops at 135th and 145th streets) and beautiful row houses make this area a lovely place to live. The district - named because it was the former home of Alexander Hamilton, the statesman who graces the ten-dollar-bill - runs from City College to the south to 155th Street to the north, west from St. Nicholas and Edgecombe avenues all the way to Riverside Drive. Much of it is landmarked single-family homes are in styles ranging from Beaux-Arts to Romanesque.
Riverbank State Park offers skating, basketball courts, and swimming - but no bike riding. Long-range plans are to open up access to the Hudson River for both walkers and bikers, using a master plan that includes environmental design and public art.
