Lake Worth
Downtown Lake Worth has witnessed a renaissance in its historic buildings, many dating back to the early part of the 20th century. It's an iconoclastic small town with its own newspaper, its own utility company, and a spirit of independence that characterizes its residents. Located along the Atlantic coast between West Palm Beach and Lantana, Lake Worth's downtown is a magnet for those who appreciate its authentic architecture and vibrant businesses. Lake Worth boasts one of the longest piers on the east coast of Florida, a band shell at Bryant Park, and other many public parks.
Lake Worth has long been known as an artist's colony, which is reflected in its numerous cultural attractions including the studios of Klein Dance, a nationally recognized contemporary dance company; the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art, where cutting-edge video and visual art attract attention from as far away as New York; the Watson B. Duncan Theatre where avant-garde works are produced; and the Lake Worth Playhouse.
There is a public golf course - built along the Intracoastal overlooking Palm Beach - and nine public parks. Lake Worth bills itself as the city 'Where The Tropics Begin,' and nature-lovers can enjoy tree-lined streets populated with mahogany, royal Poinciana, many species of palm, African tulip tree, avocado and many species of eucalyptus.
Annual festivals include a Street Painting Festival, Oktoberfest, and weekly street festivals called 'Friday on the Avenues' with downtown's main streets blocked to traffic allowing food and art kiosks to be set up around the town square in front of the City Hall Annex and its antique Town Clock. The dining options and nightlife are plentiful in downtown Lake Worth, a town that perfectly blends small-town charm with modern sophistication.
