Bushwick
Runs from Flushing Avenue to Broadway to Conway Street and the Cemetery of the Evergreens.

The new hipster hangout of Brooklyn, Bushwick is chock-full of apartments to rent and apartments to buy (including lots of lofts). The neighborhood of Bushwick is a unique melding of the East Village and Williamsburg, all rolled into the industrial setting of northeastern Brooklyn. Formerly industrial lofts and warehouses have been converted to live/work spaces, as well as artists’ studios. Both the apartments to buy and apartments to rent in Bushwick still retain many of the details found in those old lofts and converted warehouses, such as voluminous spaces and high ceilings.

But if you want something a bit more “homey,” there are also plenty of townhouses for sale and detached homes to buy in Bushwick. Architectural styles include Italianate, Neo-Greco, Romanesque Revival and Queen Anne, all built by well-known architects.

As for new construction in Bushwick, postmodern condo developments have begun to spring up and be offered for sale. Some of these luxury buildings have amenities that include roof decks (perfect for a view of the city, or of St. Barbara's Roman Catholic Church at Central Avenue — one of the tallest buildings in Brooklyn).

Bushwick, which gets its name from a Dutch word meaning “little town in the woods,” was originally settled by German immigrants who established breweries in the area. The neighborhood now is truly reflective of its residents — art galleries, performance spaces, cafés, bars and hip restaurants are popping up all over Bushwick. But other amenities also abound, including the Bushwick Green Park (erected on the former site of the Rheingold Beer factory) and the Bushwick Pool and Park with an expansive pool, children’s pool, handball courts, basketball courts and a children’s playground.
