Noyack
The first time many people see Noyack is when they take the shortcut from Route 27 in Southampton to Sag Harbor. This woodsy and somewhat hilly area used to be a diamond in the rough. Not anymore.
People have fallen in love with Noyack and it shows. The house-proud owners of the quaint beach cottages in the Pine Neck area have the South Fork's best views of sunset and Shelter Island. The nearby sandy shore of Long Beach, with its warm and calm waters, is the go-to place for families with small children. For those who prefer a cold splash, it's off to Trout Pond just up the street.
The pride of Noyack is Morton Refuge, a 187-acre peninsula on Noyack and Little Peconic Bays. Its steep bluffs, some nearly 50 feet high, kettle holes, tidal flats, and fresh- and salt-water marsh are home to many small animals and endangered birds. The Morton experience isn't complete, though, unless you bring some birdseed. Stretch out your arm, uncurl your fingers, and you'll have tame sparrows eating out of your hand.
