Done Deals: Well Worth the Wait

Two years and countless disappointments after Scott Fava started apartment hunting with his clients, he found them the ideal home.

And the two-bedroom Upper East Side unit came just in time for the arrival of the couple's first child.

"There were a lot of ups and downs and lost bidding wars, but at the end of the day, this fit all of their check marks," said Fava, who conceded it can be tough maintaining a relationship through such a long search.

"A lot of times when the buyers are disappointed, they want to blame someone. Thankfully, my clients are very level-headed. They were tired of renting and wanted a home of their own," he said. "They also knew the state of the market and what had to be done when they saw this apartment."

Corcoran's Rebecca Knaster had listed the two bedroom at 444 East 86th Street at a "modest" $879,000. Fava won out over several bids with his offer of $937,500 only after a deal for more fell apart.

"When I followed up with the listing agent she said the buyers had backed out. My clients were the next best offer and more than ready to sign the contract there and then."
