Done Deals: Bidding up, way up

A Nolita townhouse just sold for $250,000 over the $5.25 million asking price.

"I think it was priced properly," said Jim Winters of Corcoran, who represented the seller. "But in the end, we had four people bidding on it. It's such a small historic district, and those homes are unique, so I think there's a lot of demand there."

The four-story home at 17 King Street was on the market for 92 days, and has five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Other features include original crown molding, parquet floors, 11-foot ceilings, a large entry arch, and five decorative fireplaces.

17 King was once the home of author James Agee, and the site where his Pulitzer-winning novel, A Death in the Family, was written. The townhouse was built in the early ,1830's and has been owned by the Agee Family for 63 years.

The Charlton-King-Vandam Historic District contains "the city's largest concentration of row houses in the Federal style, as well as a significant concentration of Greek Revival houses."

The buyer was represented by Jenny Yu, while the seller was represented by Jim Winters of Corcoran.
