Lachlan offloading

HOT on the heels of dad's decision to offload his New York apartment, Lachlan Murdoch is now playing the real estate game, too.

According to The New York Times, the media heir, who last year stood down as an executive of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, has put up for sale what was to become his New York mansion.

Real estate brokers the Corcoran Group have listed the five-storey brick building, which is effectively a shell and requires a complete renovation, for $US14.75 million. He and undies-model wife, Sarah O'Hare , bought it in 2003 for $5.25 million.

Murdoch, who has since returned to Australia to live, will be hoping he has better luck on the market than Murdoch senior had trying to offload his SoHo triplex loft for $US28 million.

A lack of acceptable offers forced him to invite The New York Times into the home in a bid to drum up some publicity.
