Relative bargains to be found in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

This house in Southold is a short walk from the beach, the village, the Long Island Rail Road station and a Hampton Jitney stop. "For someone who doesn't have a car or doesn't want to drive back and forth, it's a plus," says Barry Novick of The Corcoran Group (631-765-1300), who is co-listing the property with Nancy Cervelli. Built in 1900, the two-bedroom, two-bath home features original wood floors. "It's in nice shape," Novick says. Zoning would allow the owner to open a retail shop on the property, he adds. One drawback is its location: Being near the main business district also means the house is near a busy road, in this case Route 25.
