Northville
Northville still looks very much like it always has: an undisturbed farming community of wide open fields that stretch north to the Long Island Sound.
Sound Avenue, Northville's Main Street, follows the coast east to Jamesport. The views of the water are so commanding it's hard to take your eyes away. It might help to know that the road you are traveling on was put into service in 1711. In short order you pass the stately first Parish Church and the Sound Avenue Grange, the oldest New York outpost of the progressive farmers' organization. Another antique architectural beauty is the one-room Schoolhouse Museum, built around 1830 and serving Northville for 100 years.
Add to all these riches the 200 acre North Fork Preserve and its 20 miles of riding trails, tennis courts and hunting privileges plus the preserve's Christmas tree farm, which helps decorate homes all across the North Fork. Northville has a lot to recommend itself.
