Remsenburg
Once upon a time Remsenburg, located due south of Speonk, used to be part of Speonk. In 1895 the feisty residents of this nub of land on Moriches Bay decided to name this area Remsenburg, in recognition of prominent resident Charles Remsen. The renaming was also done in no small part to disassociate their village from what they thought of as the awful-sounding town of Speonk.
To this day, Remsenburg still has lots of spunk. Home to British humorist P.G. Wodehouse, who created the immortal Jeeves, Remsenburgers take delight in living in a Non Hampton: out with glitter and glitz, in with getting into your own groove.
Remsenburg offers more than a state of mind. It is a beautiful community that has tree-lined streets with gorgeous country homes and quaint cottages, many of which face Moriches Bay and inlets. There are plenty of beaches along the bay as well as a 135-slip marina to dock your boat. After you see it, you'll always remember Remsenburg.
