Located at the very tip of the South Fork of Long Island, the nearly 20 square miles of Montauk represent the easternmost spot in New York state. As such, Montauk feels like the end of the earth. With a narrower range of temperature variation than similarly situated towns, it experiences comparatively warm winters, and its recorded summer averages don’t crack the 80-degree mark. It’s a fashionable place to be, but with a vibe that’s more casual and closer to nature than the more westerly Hamptons.
