Formally settled in 1640, the village of Southampton is indeed quite old by American historical standards. Artifacts of that 17th-century origin still exist — one stands in the form of the Halsey House. The house was constructed during the 1680s, represents a classic example of the English-type frame style, and is one of the oldest buildings in the entire state of New York.
