Considered part of South Charlotte, the bustling neighborhood of SouthPark lies just six miles below Uptown. It was historically part of a 3,000-acre farm owned by former North Carolina governor Cameron Morrison, evolving over the course of several generations to become what is today the Queen City’s second-largest business district—over 40,000 people work here, and some 18,000 call it home. The community’s central landmark is the two million-square-foot SouthPark Mall, one of the southeast’s oldest and largest (and among America’s most profitable) indoor shopping centers. You’ll also find a wide variety of less-corporate boutiques and restaurants, mingling with a mix of office parks and those of the recreational variety. SouthPark also encompasses a handful of other defined, well-known neighborhoods, including Barclay Downs, Foxcroft, gated Morrocroft Estates, Beverly Woods, Old Foxcroft, and Deering Oaks.
