Cable Beach is the most popular stretch of sand on New Paradise Island, just ten minutes west of Nassau with two-and-half miles of fantastic beach to explore. Adjacent to the beach are five luxury resorts, a golf course, and the Bahama’s biggest casino. (If you’re wondering about the name, it came from the undersea telegraph cable that came ashore in 1892.) In the 1940s and 1950s, when the modern era of tourism was beginning in the Bahamas, Cable Beach was the primary destination for visitors and where the expats lived. Notable homes from the era include the estate of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the then-home of the U.S. Ambassador. In recent decades, Cable Beach has become significantly less rarified, and many properties here are now condos rather than single-family homes, but it remains a sought-after spot for its convenient and central location.
