Mercer Island
Legend has it that the Duwamish people believed Mercer Island would sink into Lake Washington every night, before arising—phoenix-like and out of the fog—the following morning. But far from a mysterious enigma, Mercer Island is now solidly considered as one of the area’s loveliest places to live, connected to both Seattle and Bellevue by floating bridges on the island’s west and east sides.
