Get to Know Rock Tavern

Rock Tavern is a small hamlet that’s tucked away along the western boundaries of New Windsor, situated right in the heart of Hudson Valley’s Orange County. Though just a 90-minute drive from New York City, Rock Tavern is also close to all the bucolic splendors of the Mid-Hudson region — its location brings together the best of both city and country living. It’s just a ten-minute ride to New York Stewart International Airport or a 15-to-30-minute drive to Storm King Art Center, the river towns of Beacon and Cold Spring, the farmstands of Hudson Valley’s famous “Black Dirt” region, or the many shops at the Woodbury Common outlet mall. Rock Tavern is also home to Aerie Preserve, a new development built in 2024, comprising almost 100 single-family homes, set amid a forested backdrop and lush lawns.

Living in Orange County

Don’t call this one “the OC.” New York’s Orange County sits in the state’s Mid-Hudson region, bookended by Putnam and Dutchess Counties to the east and the Delaware River to the west. It’s the northern end of the Great Valley formed by the Appalachian Mountains, capped by the Ramapo Mountains as they escalate towards the Catskills. This dramatic landscape proved naturally advantageous in the American Revolution, which led to the founding of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Today, the attractions are anything but singular: Orange County plays host to some of the highest-profile cultural and entertainment destinations in the Hudson Valley, including Storm King Art Center, Woodbury Commons, Angry Orchard Cidery, and Legoland. Between them lie charming villages, verdant apple orchards, and rural hilltops prime for a socially-distant retreat by choice. I-84, Metro-North’s Port Jervis Line, and Stewart International Airport open gateways to destinations near and far.
