Discovery Bay’s motto is “live where you play,” and it certainly measures up to it. Settled as a resort in 1964, the eastern Contra Costa community has grown to over 14,000 year-round residents who enjoy small-town living in a vacation-like setting. Many of the homes have docks here, making it easy for boaters to putt to towns up the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers or sail out through Suisun Bay towards San Francisco. Best described as a maritime suburb, it’s just far enough from things to have a country feeling, with bountiful farmland nearby.
