Get to know Sausalito

Minutes across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, Sausalito is a well-established tourist magnet and a serene, enchanting place to call home. Houses layer the hillside in a most magical fashion, but the town’s best-known dwellings are its flotilla of 400-odd houseboats, ranging from cozy floating cottages to pontoon palaces with hot tubs and helipads. Much of the downtown along Bridgeway caters to the throngs of tourists arriving by ferry, with Caledonia Street hosting locals' favorite haunts and a series of waterfront eateries. Like its neighboring metropolis, the supply of sunshine here can at times run short when the fog rolls in, resulting in microclimates that have helped craft such neighborhood nicknames as ‘Hurricane Gulch’ and the ever-popular ‘Banana Belt.’ With its laid-back attitude, breathtaking views and miles of scenic trails, it’s no wonder Sausalito is loved by many.

Living in Marin County

Marin County represents the best of two amazing worlds. It has easy access to the global metropolis that is San Francisco yet is rich with the wonders of the natural in its parks, trails, and beaches. As an urban place, Marin is an assortment of small towns, each with its own distinct vibe. As a natural place (one, it should be noted, that’s noticeably sunnier than the city) it contains giant forests and miles upon miles of hiking and biking trails, and it’s close to the agricultural and vinicultural wonderlands of Napa and Sonoma. Those who want to live in Marin and work in the city enjoy what may be the world’s most beautiful commute options — either via the Golden Gate Bridge or by ferry (or even kayak) across the San Francisco Bay.
