Historically one of Brooklyn’s most elegant neighborhoods, Fort Greene (and adjoining Clinton Hill) long rivaled Brooklyn Heights as the borough’s most desirable address. Its stately brownstones are again coveted and, along its edges, the neighborhood has in recent years welcomed new buildings with luxury apartments and hotel amenities. Part of the draw is the location: Fort Greene sits in the center of many of the borough’s most desirable neighborhoods — the reborn Fulton Mall to its east and Bed-Stuy to its west; Williamsburg to its north and Prospect Heights and Park Slope to its south. You don’t have to leave Fort Greene, however, to experience the best of Brooklyn. The neighborhood is home to leading cultural institutions (the Brooklyn Academy of Music foremost among them), a lively and varied restaurant scene, and Fort Greene Park on its northern edge.
