San Rafael at Frenchmans Reserve
Kimberly Sullivan looked at more than 125 homes before she decided to buy “The San Rafael,” a home in Frenchman’s Reserve a half-dozen years ago. She appreciated the quality of the workmanship executed by Malcome Jones of Homes by Jones.
I did my homework,” she said. “I remembering asking a friend, when will I find my home? And she said that I’d know. And I did. That’s exactly what happened.
“The attention to detail was not something I had seen anywhere else. When you walk into this house, you see the high ceilings, the intricate crown moldings, the opulent stairways and the beautiful furnishings. Everything is well thought out. And the views looking out toward the pool are so tranquil. It’s a lovely place and I felt like I was home.”
The house was already furnished and all she needed to do was add some details, she explained. She added built-in cabinetry in the garage for storage and she redid the landscaping. “I redesigned the entire back yard. I had taken out all the stone around the pool and put in tumbled marble. I added the beautiful custom-made Sumbrella drapery, and I put in the summer kitchen and the lounge.
“That’s my Zen palace. It’s just a great place to be in the summer or winter. What’s unique about this piece of property – there’s a constant breeze, even when it’s 90 degrees, because of the elevation.”
She’s had many happy moments in this home, she said. “The peacefulness and tranquility are wonderful. I work a lot and I have lots of friends who come down and use the house. It was not just my home, but, for my friends, it’s home away from home.”
The dramatic two-floor foyer opens to double staircases and a bridge. Other architectural details include twin niches, applied molding, touches of wrought iron and a decorative tray ceiling. The color scheme is cream on cream and floors are a combination of granite and marble.
Straight on from the stairways is the living room, and to the west is the media room with stepped-up built-in seating and a big screen. On the other side, to the east, is the powder room.
A Smart Home, the lighting, security and sound are controlled from the computer in the library.
A coffered ceiling crowns the living room, which has a fireplace and a built-in wet bar. Windows on the south side of the room are completely glass affording golf-and-water views.
In the northwest corner of the house are a guest suite, laundry and garage. Through a hall off of the living room is the dining room, with a decorative tray ceiling, built-in mirrored buffet and windows that offer views of a sculpture garden.
Continuing south are a two-island kitchen and the family room. The kitchen features a tin ceiling, granite countertops, and professional-grade appliances that are either stainless steel or integrated into the pecan custom cabinetry.
A dome over the family room is lined with pine, and one entire wall has built-in cabinetry for media and display. Between the kitchen and the living room is the breakfast room, with windows angling out offering pool views.
Just off of the living room to the east is the paneled library, which is open to the second floor. Architectural features include bookcases with decorative applied molding, a coffered ceiling and windows that overlook the pool.
The master suite is on the east side of the house, and in the carpeted bedroom, features include a bay window, applied molding on the walls and a decorative tray ceiling. The closets have built-ins and in the lady’s bathroom, there are stained glass, a highly decorative tray ceiling, a make-up area, a soaking tub and it shares a large walk-in shower with the gentleman’s bathroom.
Upstairs are three guest bedroom suites. Also upstairs are a second-floor living area and library, as well as a large entertainment room with card, game and media areas.
The pool area features fountains, outdoor shower and a covered loggia, which includes an outdoor living room with a fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen with a refrigerator, icemaker and grill.
