History & Culture
Like much of California, Riverside County is rooted in its wealth of natural resources. Menifee’s motto, “Gem of the Valley,” is no trope: The city sat atop a prosperous quartz lode discovered by its namesake, miner Luther Menifee Wilson, and diamonds are an iterative theme found on street signs and other elements throughout town. Temecula is one of Southern California's only communities retaining its indigenous name, españolized from a local Native American word loosely translating to “where the sun breaks through the mist.” In the past decade or so, the area has experienced a resurgence of residents and businesses relocating from traditional population centers surrounding Los Angeles and San Diego. Access to key transportation corridors has helped further cement Riverside County's status as one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
