Settled as a resort in 1964, the eastern Contra Costa community has grown to over 14,000 year-round residents who enjoy small-town living in a vacation-like setting. Many of the homes have docks here, making it easy for boaters to putt to towns up the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers or sail out through Suisun Bay towards San Francisco. There’s a yacht club, but you won’t spot too many pairs of salmon shorts. In addition to its miles of waterways, the Discovery Bay Country Club offers a championship golf course designed by Ted Robinson, with a bevy of public parks offering additional recreation. Best described as a maritime suburb, it’s just far enough from things to have a country feeling, with bountiful farmland nearby. The laid-back vibe and unbeatable lifestyle make this delta town a desirable place to tie up.

Living in the California Delta
