Get to know Novato

Situated in northeast Marin County at the mouth of the Petaluma River, charming Novato pairs a small-town feel with the vibrancy you’d expect in a community of 50,000 residents, all in the breathtaking surrounds of tree-studded hills and vast open spaces. On a good day, it’s about a half-hour’s drive into San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge via Highway 101. You can also hop a SMART train right in town for a ferry connection at Larkspur Landing, or to go enjoy the downtowns of San Rafael, Petaluma, or Santa Rosa. Novato’s own Grant Street business district boasts an exciting array of shops, eateries, and convenient strip-mall shopping. Parks and hiking trails are found throughout both the hills to the west as well as the coastal wetlands to the east. There’s even a public boat ramp at Black Point, a nautical gateway to San Pablo Bay and beyond.

Living in Marin County

Marin County represents the best of two amazing worlds. It has easy access to the global metropolis that is San Francisco yet is rich with the wonders of the natural in its parks, trails, and beaches. As an urban place, Marin is an assortment of small towns, each with its own distinct vibe. As a natural place (one, it should be noted, that’s noticeably sunnier than the city) it contains giant forests and miles upon miles of hiking and biking trails, and it’s close to the agricultural and vinicultural wonderlands of Napa and Sonoma. Those who want to live in Marin and work in the city enjoy what may be the world’s most beautiful commute options — either via the Golden Gate Bridge or by ferry (or even kayak) across the San Francisco Bay.
