Get to know Lakewood Ranch

Lakewood Ranch, developed from 50 square miles of farmland about 30 minutes east of Sarasota, is a young master-planned community that started in 1995. Essentially a self-contained town spread over more than two dozen villages, Lakewood Ranch has been enormously successful. It has attracted multi-generational residents who appreciate the warm and welcoming community that has developed over the past three decades, as well as the ability to live, work, and play all in the same place. Unlike nearby Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch is not a beachfront community, though the developer has set aside 40% of the total land to remain as open space. As a result, Lakewood Ranch has more than 10,000 acres of lakes, parks, and nature preserves. Many of the villages still have plenty of room for new construction, so new residents can work with builders to create a custom home, though re-sales are available as well.
