Get to know Greenpoint

Located in Brooklyn’s northwest corner, tucked above Williamsburg, Greenpoint has a small-town feel — and one with a Polish accent at that. The Polish community here dates to the 19th century, when immigrants arrived to work in the area’s shipyards, though it has been reinvigorated by waves of more recent arrivals. Polish restaurants and bakeries can be found throughout the neighborhood. They have been joined by newcomers attracted by an atmosphere that includes some of the best vibe of Williamsburg, in terms of new restaurants and bars — while, so far, avoiding some of the crowdedness. Running through the middle of Greenpoint, McGuinness Boulevard divides it into two distinct halves. The livelier western side is where you’ll find most of the restaurants and shopping, as well as the G train. In the eastern half, the atmosphere is quieter, and the feeling of being removed from the big-city bustle is even more palpable.
