Blues Make SoHo Owner Happy

With its duck-egg-colored walls and cobalt blue accents, it's no secret that Laurence Isaacson has a thing for the color blue.

 

"It's very rich and vibrant," said the former London restaurateur and current theater investor of the color chosen for his SoHo penthouse. "It adds a lot of drama."

 

Mr. Isaacson purchased the penthouse at 210 Lafayette St. for $2.6 million in 2006, according to property records, just as the unit was being completed.

 

He made slight alternations to the 1,509-square-foot home before moving in, removing the wall that separated the living room from the kitchen, and retiling the home's two bathrooms in mosaic tiles—one in blue, the other in opalescent green.

 

Then he called on interior designer Andy Suvalsky to decorate the two-bedroom place. The end result was a living room with a cobalt blue chandelier and matching leather armchairs, glassware and accents. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors were also added to make the room feel larger.

 

Down a long hallway flanked by pattered fabric is another blue room, this one with a cobalt blue couch, drapery and a mural. The blue theme carries over to the private-rooftop terrace where there are plastic mirrors, blue panels and walls and blue outdoor furnishings.

 

Other features of the penthouse include a private entrance on Crosby Street with an elevator that opens up to the apartment. The unit also boasts "a fabulous view of the water towers of SoHo," Mr. Isaacson said.

 

With his work as a governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company and a founding shareholder of the Ambassador Theatre Group, Mr. Isaacson has split his time between New York and London.

 

He owns several homes, including a maisonette at 30 Crosby St. that he decided to rent after a failed attempt to sell it. The penthouse was listed with Corcoran Group in June for $3.395 million.

 

"I've got too many properties," said Mr. Isaacson, who has been spending more time in London. He added that having two properties on Crosby "is a little bit self-indulgent."
